Visual signs of aging include problems with skin tone and texture, especially on the face. One of the most annoying skin problems is the lack of moisture retention and thinning skin layers. This results in the formation of smile lines, crow’s feet, and other fine wrinkles whenever we contract the facial muscles. The muscles that lie just beneath the skin control the movement of our lips, upper cheeks, and the boundary around the eyes. This is what allows us to frown, smile, pout, and make other interesting expressions. The problem is, when we smile at our friends, the wrinkles become apparent, and suddenly we look old and tired. These dynamic wrinkles can be smoothed away through BOTOX injections.
Unlike other cosmetic fixes that address the skin itself, BOTOX allows the skin to remain smooth by partially paralyzing muscle action. Our clients here in Edmonds are thrilled with the results of BOTOX injections, and you will be too once you find out how simple and effective this treatment is.
BOTOX Versus Skin Treatments
Chemical peels are harsh and can actually bleach the skin, making this treatment unsuitable for many individuals. A facelift can diminish the appearance of wrinkles, but it’s a more aggressive procedure that many adults simply aren’t ready for. Dermabrasion can actually cause discolored areas on the skin surface.
On the other hand, BOTOX doesn’t treat the skin directly, so it’s suitable for all skin types and skin tones. The results last for up to five months, and subsequent treatments are even simpler because less of the BOTOX fluid is required to do the job.
Consulting with the Client
You may have heard that all you have to do is go to a clinic, request BOTOX injections, and walk out with smoother skin. It doesn’t work that way. At Delaney MD, located in Edmonds, we would never recommend this treatment without first consulting with the client. To properly administer this treatment, we need to examine the facial skin, note the thickness of the dermal layers, and see how strong the facial muscles are. This allows us to inject the proper dosage and also to determine which muscles need to be relaxed.
The fluid contains a diluted amount of a toxin that’s produced by a certain strain of bacteria. When injected beneath the skin and directly into the upper-level muscles, it begins to block nerve signal transmissions. After about three days, the muscles that pull or relax the skin don’t contract nearly as much as they did prior to treatment. Don’t worry, smiling and frowning are just as easy as before, but the skin doesn’t get pinched, meaning that dynamic wrinkles no longer become apparent.
This treatment is effective in reducing the visual appearance of smile lines and crow’s feet near the eyes, around the corners of the mouth, and even on the forehead. The affected muscles will become used to remaining in a relaxed state, so future injections won’t involve as high a dose as the original.
The sensory nerves aren’t affected, so the face won’t feel numb. Unlike many other dermal treatments, BOTOX injections are completed in just a few minutes, and there’s absolutely no downtime for the client.
This is the most popular cosmetic treatment for improving the appearance of fine wrinkles and marionette lines. If you need more information or want to schedule a consultation and treatment, contact Delaney MD, located in Edmonds!
